1969 Hurst/Olds Dealership Ad's

The following is information I have collected over many years, I believe it is somewhat comprehensive but by no means complete. I've collected the information from Demmer paperwork, window stickers, newspaper listings, owners information, etc. If you have confirmation of a dealership not in the listing, please let me know and I will add the information to the listing.
I would appreciate a reference if you are going to use this information elsewhere.

Per the Convertibles, it seems all 3 were paperworked through Key Oldsmobile in Warren, MI. There is documentation that 2 of the Convertibles were processed though Key so there is no reason to believe the third wasn't either. When I mention 'paperworked' that is a reference that the cars were sold and processed through Key via Oldsmobile Corporate but were probably never on location at the physical dealership. The cars were designated as factory pickup. The three Convertibles are included in Key's figures.

Part of the idea of having a 1969 Hurst/Olds at a dealership was to use it as a drawing card to get customers in the door.
Original literature was pressing the following;

• Strive to get all the "sales mileage" out of this unique near-one-of-a-kind vehicle as possible.
• Let the Hurst/Olds bring them in...but be ready to convert the interest into your regular performance packages.
• Teach your salesman the tricks of taking H/O features and turning them into talking points for other units.
• The Hurst/Ods is your drawing card to sell Youngmobiles...especially the hot F-85, Cutlass and 4-4-2 models.

Keeping that in mind, some dealers went with what I'll call a 2 or 3 step approach. (1) An initial ad letting the public know the car was coming/going to arrive.
(2) An 'It's here Now' or somthing similar when it arrived. (3) Afterwards, a standard ad, usually of the 'Cartoon' Snarls Softly image for the car.

One of the better series of ad's came from Bert Smith Oldsmobile in St. Petersberg, FL. They even teamed up with a local radio station to broadcast from thier dealership. They had a local DJ "Johnny Rebel" drive around town that day with the 1969 H/O for a 'Hurst Hunt'. If you found him in one of the "IN" spots in town, you could win a cash prize!

Most dealers went with the basic 'Snarls Softly' Cartoon ad. But some went completely 'Off Reservation' and came up with thier own ads. Below are just a few examples.

Below is the basic news article with the (insert dealership name) instructions, this was directly printed as is in the Santa Maria Times.
I assume this was submitted by Stewart Oldsmobile as several days later it appeard with thier information correctly inserted.
I also assume this 'form' was provided by Oldsmobile or Hurst to the dealers to make use of. Following that are how several dealers used this form of advertising.

• Dealership with most sold: Key Oldsmobile - Warren, MI. (12)
• Dealerships with multiple 1969 H/O's sold: (31)
• Dealership with the earliest advertisement: Mitchell Motors Inc. - The Atlanta Constitution March 28, 1969 'Coming Soon'
• Dealership with the 'latest' advertisement: Fresno Motor Sales. - The Fresno Bee December 21, 1969 (They had it since at least June 6)
• State with most participating dealers: Pennsylvania. (24)
• Next state with most participating dealers: California. (23)
• Number of states with more than 10 participating dealers.: (13)
• States where none appear to have been sold: Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Rhode Island.
• Cities with most participating dealers.: Houston (4), St. Louis (4)
  (Note, that is the city itelf. For example, could only find (3) for Chicago itelf but the surrounding Chicago 'area' had 8 or 9.)
